Microsoft announced that it is raising the prices of certain Xbox consoles in the United States starting in October. The company attributed the increase to “changes in the macroeconomic environment.” It is the second U.S. Xbox price rise in 2025 so far, although U.S. prices of accessories, including headsets and controllers, are not going up.
Even though Microsoft did not directly mention tariffs, the move comes after sustained cost pressures that are blamed on trade policies introduced earlier by then-President Donald Trump as part of an attempt to encourage more US manufacturing. Sony and Nintendo have already increased the price of their consoles in response.
- New Xbox Console Prices (From October)
- Xbox Series S (512GB): $399 (from $379)
- Xbox Series S (1TB): $449
- Xbox Series X Digital: $599 (up $50)
- Xbox Series X with disc drive: $649 (up $50)
- Xbox Series X (2TB Galaxy Black edition): $799 (from $729)
Microsoft acknowledged that the price hike may be tough on customers, but again defended the changes as being made after considerable thought. The raises point out trade policies, tariffs, and economic pressures as being a constant throughout consumer electronics even in today's generation of consoles.
